Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Even if Buffy does find true love and happiness with Angel/Spike/Willow/Faith/Xander/whoever, she's not going to live happily ever after. She's the Slayer. Her life will always revolve around killing demons and saving the world.

Also, "Buffy" is not short for "Elizabeth".

Heroes
While Sylar may have feelings for Claire, she will never reciprocate them. Claire hates Sylar with a fiery passion, bordering on irrational.

Like to put in a my few cents here with some of my fandoms:

W.I.T.C.H.

- FIVE ELEMENTS, people. Water, fire, earth, air, energy. Nothing more, nothing less. Stop trying to shove a sixth Guardian into the mix with some super, special element. They're not like the Power Rangers.
- If you're using the animated continuity, there is more than one Heart. Stop giving everyone the Heart of Kandrakar/Candracar.
- In that same vein, not everyone's going to done purple and green tights with fairy wings. That's only the Heart of Kandrakar. Look at Matt, Huggles and Napoleon - Heart of Earth turned them into monster-like beings. Granted, Matt and Huggles had reason...

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (and this is only because I saw it in an RP...)

- Yes, Nanoha has enough magical firepower that, if she showed up in a Super Robot Wars game, she'd fit in quite well with all those giant robots. No, she doesn't like to blow up stuff all the time.
- Nanoha quite likes her position as Captain and Instructor. She DOESN'T want to be the head of ANYTHING. That would be Hayate, if anyone, people!

I know, I probably listed two pretty obscure fandoms here, but, I wanted to get them off my chest.

Mmm... gonna hafta say that's still perfectly rational.

Legend of Zelda
-Write what you want, but seriously, unless you're writing about the cartoon series, Link's main goal was never to boink Zelda. If you simply must have them get together, then do it in a way that doesn't turn Link into a brainless dolt or Zelda into a damsel or bimbo.

X-Men

- I’m generalising these so they can apply to Movieverse, Comicverse and 90’s &Evolution Cartoonverse.

- If you are going to introduce a character who is going to be angsty over his/her powers... Give them powers that are worth getting angsty about. If you are beautiful, all-powerful and all-knowing, I can't take you seriously when you moan about how 'being a mutant has ruined your life'. Especially not with Nightcrawler, Rogue, Beast, Cyclops and Chamber stood in the corner, arms folded scowling at you.

- Charles Xavier will never have sex with any of his students.

- If Magneto says: "I love you", He means: "You are temporarily useful to me." Remember this.

- Cyclops is a dick. But he is a dick for a reason, quit making him a dick for no reason.

- Charles Xavier will NEVER HAVE SEX WITH HIS STUDENTS!!

- You cannot tame Wolverine. He doesn’t want to be. He will not settle down because he is perfectly aware that he will outlive you, he’s gone through that before. (Hooking up with any X-Man is almost guarenteed death, anyhow!)

- Kitty Pride is not a bitch, knock that shit off.

- HE BLOODY WELL WON’T, OK?

- Mystique is fucking awesome at just about everything she does. If you are going to have her make a mistake, misjudge an opponent or fail at something, provide a damn good reason.

- Despite evidence to the contrary, the Sentinels are supposed to be scary and effective.

- And finally: R – O – G – U – E

Sorry to keep harping on this, but it really is my thing.

IF YOU'RE GOING TO WRITE A HOLOCAUST/NAZI GERMANY STORY, ORIGINAL OR FANFICTION, KNOW THAT...

1. You need to do your damn research. If you're writing from a prisoner's perspective, have an idea what stalag, Gestapo prison, or concentration camp life was like. If you're writing from a soldier's or guard's perspective, know details about how the Nazi heirarchy functioned. If your character makes it to the liberation, know which allied army liberated which camp on what date. If you're going to afflict a character with a specific disease, know the symptoms. Know your timelines. For a historical fic, research is half the battle.

2. Concentration camp prisoners were human beings, and most of them held on to their personalities to the very end. Make them three-dimensional characters.

3. Making famous atrocity-perpetrators like Amon Goeth, Josef Mengele, and Ilse Koch into misunderstood woobies or, worse, love objects to fap to, is a bad idea. These people were vicious, heartless psychopaths.

4. That said, not all Germans were 100% bad during this time (Oskar Schindler, duh). Likewise, all Jews were not 100% good (if you don't know what the word "kapo" means, you have no business writing a Holocaust fic).

5. Auschwitz was not the only death camp. It was the biggest, but there were others. It's okay to branch out a little and set a fic in, say, Sobibor.

6. It's okay to have sex in the fic; concentration camps and ghettoes were actually promiscuous places that saw their share of both consensual and nonconsensual sex. However, to write a lurid lemon about them is to disrespect the dead.

7. If you write an original Holocaust story, it is bad form to slap the Schindler's List label on it so that you can call it fanfiction.

8. If you put your gorgeous Mary Sue/Gary Stu character in a concentration camp, they will not remain gorgeous for long; nobody looks good when bald, emaciated, dirty, exhausted, sick, bloody, and bruised. If you're thinking of writing a fic in which a CC prisoner maintains their ability to stun with their beauty for months on end, don't.

9. If you're writing in English, the reader will understand that dialogue is translated from the German/French/Yiddish/whatever. Eet iz not naecesserry for ze charactahrs to talk lihk ziz.

10. The Holocaust is not simple fodder for Mary Sue's twagic past. The Magneto Rule: If you're going to write about a Holocaust survivor, make sure you go in with an idea of how the character's suffering changed them mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, and economically.

TMNT

1: They're turtles. I know there's a few fics where they get turned into humans that are good, but the primary point of it being TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES is that they are TURTLES.

2: There are about half a dozen different continuities. Some of them actually interlock or intertwine. The 1987 one is the most different from any of the others.

3: The turtles fight. They would never, ever, however, no matter what, intentionally hurt one of their brothers. Raphael gets pretty rough sometimes but none of them are rapists or murderers.

4: Did I say they're turtles?

5: April doesn't need to fuck any of the turtles. She's got Casey Jones for that.

6: The Shredder is consistently capable of kicking the turtles' asses, sometimes all four at once. Even when he's an idiot or a robot, he's still better than them. YOUR OC CANNOT DEFEAT THE SHREDDER. Only Splinter can defeat the Shredder.

7: TURTLES, dammit!

8: Nobody's stopping your OC from winning the occasional sparring match against a turtle. But these guys have been training in Ninjitsu for the last 18 years (or close). With the best teacher in the world. You'd better have been doing the same. One turtle can defeat about ten Foot Ninja at once, and those guys aren't exactly pushovers either.

9: There's LOTS of weapons to choose from, not just swords.

10: They would never hurt their brothers. I said that already. And they would never leave them behind. You know damn well what I mean by 'hurt'. Siblings fight. That's normal.

Akira

* The movie only did the first two books. There are six books, and EVER so much head-exploding. You're missing a lot.

* The manga was not about sex and psychokinetic powers. It was about politics and social interaction and took the original slant that the military does not have to be the bad guy. Colonel Shikishima APPEARED to be an antagonist at first, but he was in fact a good and honourable man who wanted to save Neo-Tokyo from a second Akira.

* Kai, aka Kaisuke, is homosexual. He shows not the slightest interest in any girls, and seems to be attracted to Kaneda. But like hell does that make him a wuss. Being a shortarse does not mean he does not kick ass - sometimes right through windows.

* The Capsules gang are not nice kids. They are delinquents who got sent to the Eighth District Youth Vocational Training School because of their repeated criminal behaviour. They use guns. They smoke and drink and take drugs. They go on late-night biker rides and kick the shit out of rival gangs.

* When it comes to girls, Kaneda is kind of a dickwad. He won't treat your Mary Sue with the adoring love and devotion she deserves. He doesn't even TRY to hide the fact that he's in it for sex.
** While attracted to Kaneda, Kei knows this.

* There's a shitload of characters in the Manga who never showed up in the movie.

* Live action Akira? I shudder at what Hollywood will do to it.

What's a weaboo? Whatever it is, I'd still prefer it to the canon rape I suspect will be coming from any Live Action Akira.

They ought to change the title. "Akira" will have manga fans going to see it, and they'll know damn well what it's supposed to be. This could turn out to be one of the worst cartoon-to-LA movies since TMNT 3.

You know Encyclopaedia Dramatica isn't overly helpful in these matters.

But I think I'd prefer them to be weaboos than what they seem to intend to do to the source material. It's going to be terrible.

They were engaged. She wanted to divest her family of their connection to the Yazuka and The Hand before they got married. But yeah, Logan (I flatly refuse to even think of him as "James") would love nothing better than settling down, but getting smacked repeatedly with The Cartwright Curse has taught him not to pursue it.

Minish Cap: Though they're in Toy Ship territory, Zelda is pretty giggly and flirty with him. They're clearly playmates and more later on didn't seem out of the question.

Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood

• Remember that although the books and the series share a setting and general plot, some of the situations and characterizations are drastically different. Keep them straight when writing about one or the other. Ex: Book!Jason is a good natured redneck Kavorka Man with horrible taste in bedmates. HBO!Jason is a jerk ass who will stick his dick in anything that will hold still long enough and say "Oh yes!" at the appropriate times.
  
• Although Eric is utterly ruthless in pursuing his interests, he takes pride in being scrupulously respectful of his lovers - even fangbangers. He's not turning anyone into his sex slave. Nor is he going to be raping Sookie - to him this would be defeating the purpose.
  
• Bubba does not exist in True Blood. If you want to include him, you'd better have a damn good reason why he hasn't shown up yet.
  
• Sookie is a bit of a prude*. Even with her canon lovers this is true. If she's unattached in your story, she's not going to be jumping happily into bed with Bill/Eric/Sam/Alcide/Quinn/Your Stu. Not without some major angsting on her part. Remember that.

* HBO!Sookie, that is. Book!Sookie is a MAJOR prude.
