| Basic was quite a ride. Wasn't too bad, although it often seemed like I somehow managed to keep coming up just short of excellence in just about everything. For example: I missed qualifying as Expert on the M16 by one shot.
The number "42" will forever haunt me for reasons other than Douglas Adams now. |

| Ehh, the Marines just punch up the PT a bit more than we do and insist that everyone scream at each other. And qualifying on the M16 is mandatory, IIRC. In the Air Force qualification is expected but not mandatory, and getting Expert/Marksman just earns you a ribbon and nothing else, really. |

| Marine basic runs into their version of AIT which is why they get away with bragging about their basic being the longest.
