Other than most of the New Who fans don't really seem that interested in finding out anything about the Classic Series? Whereas a lot of the Classic Series fans (I'm one) frequently know as much about the New Who as they do about the older series? I'm quite fond of Nine and 11, myself. Never could get a grip on 10-he spent way too much time chewing the scenery and generally overacting. Between that and the whole 'Rose as his twu wub' scenario, I found it a bit hard to take.
I actually didn't mind Rose that much when she was with Nine. The relationship was more friendship than obsessive 'I can't live without you and my life is worthless when you're gone.' |

| Tolkien himself pointed out that Legolas had the least to do in the Fellowship. The books give a huge Ho Yay vibe around Legolas and Gimli, in the movies it looks more like Gimli is Legolas' bumbling sidekick. |

It just sounded like you were descending into "those damn kids". I try to keep up, for the most part, despite being born in '89. There's just a lot of it to get through, and inevitably, I keep getting drawn into "But who is your favorite Doctor?" The thing is, I like them all about the same, in different ways. That answer is apparently wrong though, with both Old Who and New Who fans. |

I didn't mean to come off as condescending. I realize that for a good-sized portion of the fandom, New Who is all they really know about, and most of them would probably be bored to tears by the older episodes (let's face it, special effects in the 70s and 80s weren't that spectacular). I suppose it's because I'm one of those people that when I like something, I tend to gather as much information about it as I can. I've never seen any of One's episodes, besides the first one, and most of Two's episodes were lost (or erased) and only exist in bits and pieces. But I've read the books, and I know the actors who played the various Doctors, and who their companions were, and I watched the original series from the middle of Three's tenure till it was finally taken off the air. And when I found it had been brought back (and got access to cable), I started rewatching it.
I sometimes forget other people aren't obsessive/compulsive about things they like. |

Objectively speaking though, he offered the least in the Fellowship - except in those situations where he served as the Captain Obvious. Yes, there is the whole friendship thing with Gimli which is remarkable if you know the hatred between Elves and Dwarves, but it still plays a pretty small part in the whole story. | I always felt that Legolas and Gimli qualified as one character between the two of them. | Hmm... Gimli marginally stood out more - for me anyway - because of Gloin and Balin, giving him a bit more of a background. Not that by itself offered any purpose in matters of characterization. | *shrug* You can divide it up how you like. Perhaps Gimli is 3/4 and Legolas is only 1/4 of an entire character? |
lol Yeah, that can work. |
