| Yes, I'm well aware of how some here will stop at nothing to ensure a certain Pokemon fanfic author is never forgotten (to which I say I wish you wouldn't- her site and fics are long gone and I for one want to forget her and her fics). However, even if I do want to forget her, there is one thing and one thing only I kind of agree with her on: "meet you in heaven" fics.
No, her over-dramatic reactions to those weren't justified. However, I don't understand why an author would kill off a character they supposedly love so much, then have the other half of their preferred pairing grieve (at the very least, never finds any one else) until they die themselves. It makes no sense to me, even when one or both characters involved died in canon. I also don't see how meeting again in Heaven is supposed to "make it all better", (not to to start a bog religious debate, but) especially for anyone who doesn't believe in Heaven or any form of afterlife. |

| Pokemon? That sounds like the Titanic fandom. |

| To each their own, I suppose. It's a fairly common device in original fiction as well. |

Yeah, aside from the whole "waiting and grieving" aspect, take Romeo & Juliet. People are all over that one.
I get the OP's post, though, in the sense that it makes you wonder why people like their favorite characters to suffer so much. You can even take death out of the equation, as long as they suffer! Take Twilight- the girl basically goes catatonic after the 'pire leaves, and people think it's so sad and romantic. Hell, I'll just include myself here; I'm currently writing a story that has a bittersweet ending at best. I'm shipping my characters so hard; why do I do that to them? |

| Sometimes people like to cry. You might as well wonder why there's so much pornographic fanfic out there. |

| I liked one once that was Padme forgiving Anakin in force heaven. there was an official SW novel where Vader's ghost came to Leia for forgiveness too. |

| I could take or leave them. Personally, I want to see a "meet you in Heaven" fic where the one who bit it first chews out their one true love for making them wait so long. |

I read a fanfic like that in the Torchwood fandom, where Jack/Face of Boe finally died and discovered that there WAS an afterlife (and not just the darkness he'd always encountered before). He was re-united with the whole team, including Ianto, who spent a good four or five paragraphs bitching about how long he'd had to wait to see him again. It was actually pretty funny. |
