We've all seen it--badly written, badly thought out romance is a staple of badfic. However, some pairings go beyond that into WTF territory.
For example, this piece of badfic from the Rebecca fandom, in which Maxim DeWinter is in love with Mrs. Danvers. You know, the creepy housekeeper with a face like a skull and an unhealthy attachment to the deceased Rebecca.

Any pairing between canon characters who hate each other's guts. Claire/Sylar from Heroes, Angelus/Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cloud/Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, you get the idea. I'm quite open to the idea of redeeming a villain through love, but that depends on the villain - and the hero. The exception, of course, is rape fics. But that's not really shipping them, is it?

Oh oh, can I play? Man, what is UP with shipping ENEMIES together? That makes noooooooo sense! And what's the deal with SLASH? GAWD, why can't two guys just be FRIENDS??? Or characters that never even MEET in canon! Cuckoo, cuckoo! And don't you just hate it when people just take two pretty characters and pair them off? Isn't that SHALLOW of them? Personally, I just can't comprehend why people ship pairings I don't like.
There, did I cover everything?

Well, to be fair... in some fandoms there's canon justification for slash. Take, for example, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the Garak/Bashir pairing: both actors have said that they deliberately put in a homosexual subtext between the characters (until, IIRC, Viacom screamed loud enough and they took it out), and one of the writers has specifically noted that he wrote Garak as bisexual and attracted to Bashir.
It's all over the first meeting between them. Here, take a look if you don't believe me.

So, YMMV depending on the circumstances.
But yes, slashing characters who have never shown the slightest sign of interpersonal chemistry makes me go too.
(And yep, you covered everything, sarcasm and all!)

Given that the #1 sign of a badfic around here is people acting out of character, which the majority of everything you mentioned involves, your strawman is particularly idiotic.

I never though I'd find myself agreeing with Penguin, but he's got a good point.
I frankly have nothing against people shipping pairings I don't like. Amazingly enough, choosing to read fanfic is just that-a choice. If you read a fanfic containing a pairing you hate and it makes you all stabby, don't come crying to me.
And adding to Crowdogs canon justification for slash, we've got Torchwood (where Jack and Ianto were definitely doing it), the British version of Skins, where one of the main characters was openly gay, and GLEE, which has several canon gay characters. I'm sure that are other shows with canon gay, bisexual and lesbian characters, I just don't watch a lot of TV these days.
I do, however, agree with not understanding the slashing of characters that never so much as look at each other (or, in extreme cases, never even meet), but to each there own. Trust me, when I was younger, I slashed characters with even less justification than that (translates this as 'they looked pretty together'). Then I grew up and got better.

I think almost any pairing could be justified with a shit-ton of groundwork and good writing. While I can't speak to most of the examples listed in the first couple of posts, I could easily argue FFVII—Cloud has a canonical case of hero worship for Sephiroth, who canonically went batshit crazy pre-game. Who knows what was going on before that? (Other common arguments countered: yes, Cloud was fourteen, but he was admitted to the army at that age, so it's obviously an age of consent; yes, Crisis Core filled in some of those gaps, but multiple pieces of canon are not necessarily taken into account when writing. Did I miss any big ones?)
All that said: Pyramid Head won't romance your sparkly Sue. Ain't gonna happen.

Nah, I got it. I just occasionally get tired of someone trying to start a reasonably serious thread about something fanfic related and having it derailed by CW complaining about how it's already been done. I'd assumed GAFF existed to discuss fanfic and fanfic-related tropes, so yes, the same idea is probably going to be repeated. Doesn't make it any less valid. It's like complaining about the number of death threads in the News (or rape threads, or anti-abortion threads). As my oldest son's journalism teacher pointed out to the class; every day, millions of plains fly all over the world and arrive safely at their destinations. You only hear about the ones that blow up in mid-air or crash on landing, causing massive loss of life, because that's what constitutes NEWS.

In a fandom full of incest, angel porn, demon porn, daddy issues, and an occassional genderbending, I get flack for shipping two characters who define angry sex. I like it. I don't think I need to justify it.

Frollo shipping, specifically Frollo/Esmeralda shipping, in a lot of fanfics indicates a much nastier mind set. In turning Frollo into a figure of pity, they essentially dehumanize Esmeralda, turning her into an object that Frollo is entitled to because he 'loves' her. There have been a few fanfics, primarily Disney fics that recognize what a fucked up relationship that would be and treat it accordingly, but too often Frollo's crimes against Esmeralda are either handwaved away or justified and Esmeralda's never too bothered by them. It's easy to pity Book!Frollo's descent into madness, but where is the pity for the 16 year old he stalks, attempts to rape, and ultimately murders?

Speaking of terrible canon pairings, there's quite a lot of Kat/Stretch Casper fanfiction.
It's crazy. There was nothing these two did, ever, in the movie, to even SUGGEST that they have the hots for each other. Screaming at somebody does not mean you think they're sexy.
Furthermore, almost all of these fanfics involve Kat as a human and Stretch as a ghost. How is that possible? They couldn't do it with Kat and Casper in the movie.
I hate that pairing.

I don't really have a problem with how people pair characters. But, baby-kicking Christ, don't go on and on about how the pairing is possible! It isn't even canon and you're explaining at great and painful lengths how the pairing works in character!
No!
Example: Robin/Raven of Teen Titans. Canonically, Robin and Starfire is the pairing.
For this fan-brat, such is not the case:
Robin/Raven Fan-brat wrote:

I'm getting bored & annoyed with some of these comments. I said everyone is welcome to comment as long as they keep it civilized, but your tired excuses for WHY you ship Rob/Star and/or BB/Rae are pointless. I never asked to know exactly what you ship or why you ship it. That's your own business, I'm not being rude...yet. I'll get to that in a moment, right now I'm just being straight forward.
A popular or rather overused argument, is that Robin & Raven are too alike. They are like brother and sister, and so they could never have a romantic relationship. Ever heard of sibling rivalry? It occurs very often among siblings. Infact, wasn't that what the episodes Sisters and Betrothed were about? Opposites may attract, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they can have a long and meaningful relationship. Weddings that end in divorce are usually due to 'irreconcilable differences'. If Robin and Raven are 'so alike', then that's exactly why they should get together.
Which brings me to my next point...There may have been some subtle hints at BB/Rae in the show, but BB/Terra was practically canon while it lasted. This is because they got along so well. They were both fun, outgoing people. She even laughed at his jokes! They were like two peas in a pod. BB even made heart eyes at Blackfire, because she was the 'fun & outgoing' type too.
The fact is, Rob/Star is only canon because the writers choose to make it so. This pairing exists in a fantasy world exactly for that reason, because it is fantasy. In real life, it would be nothing more than a fling or a booty call even. So yeah, I just blew a gigantic hole in your feeble argument. The way I see it, there's nothing left to state here. Therefore, from now on I'd recommend making a comment directly related to the video, or at the very least come up with a more conceivable excuse.
