Now that I'm back, I thought I'd revive this old thread where we nominate characters who have suffered greatly and undeservedly at the hands of fanbrats for sainthood. I'll start.

Kat Hillard:

Y'all know I'm a PR fan but even non PR fans can agree that the amount of shit she gets for dating a guy months after he broke up with her friend is ridiculous. I've seen everything happen to her, up to getting beaten to death with a baseball bat for her audacity. I feel she deserves to be nominated as a martyr of love and charity for her suffering.

Also, Arwen deserves to be a martyr for love and charity because she dares to fall in love with Aragorn.

If anybody wants to write prayers and make saint cards, be my guest. That's what made the thread so fun the last few times we had it.

Ianto Jones. Patron Saint of Characters Hated by Their Creator.

There was no reason for his death except that RTD wanted Jack and Gwen to get together. And apparently, having Jack and Ianto break-up wasn't enough. He had to KILL the man just to make a point. The point being that Jack and Gwen were meant to be together all along. Never mind that Jack and Ianto were in love (or as much in love as Jack is capable of letting himself be) and Gwen's happily married to Rhys and they're expecting their first child. The two seasons before Children of Earth didn't mean crap because RTD wasn't directing and writing them, so nothing that happened was valid.

Also, Patron Saint of Kick-Ass Characters who get woobified just because they're pretty. Though there's some contention here with Arthur from 'Inception' and the Fifth, Eighth and Tenth Doctors from Dr. Who.

And as long as we're talking about characters from LOTR: Eowyn, Patron Saint of Women Who Refuse to Adhere to their Gender Roles. Because Lord knows, if not for her and Pippin fulfilling the prophecy, the Witch King of Angmar would have never been defeated.

Sonic the Hedgehog - Patron Saint of Pairings Wars and Character Bashings

With all the different continuities (game, three USA cartoons, the anime, the OAV, two comic books), there have been a lot of characters and, of course, about a gabillion different pairings. Along with all those pairings...there have been just as many fans either bashing the pairing or just one of the characters therein.

To prove my contention, I will merely state the number of badly written stories, involving her (and her accomplice in crime, Jack Harkness), with any or all of the 3 Doctors, which have appeared on the show since 2005, that now currently blight the Doctor Who section, within the Pit of Voles...

Is there a Patron Saint of Improbable Plasticity? If there isn't, I nominate Xander Harris of BtVS because this ordinary bloke gets stretched to anything from: a armed-to-the-teeth badass (who's even better at fighting than Buffy), a cutting, weeping bishie, an unrelenting misogynistic asshole, to God knows what. He's out of character far more often than he's in it.
