| And then there's the "same actor" device. There is no logical reason why Jack Sparrow -- sorry, Captain Jack Sparrow -- should meet Willy Wonka and Mort Rainey. But they do it all the time. In fact, wasn't there a massive crossover containing every character Johnny Depp has ever played, ever? |

| I'll see your "same actor" and raise you "same VOICE actor".
I think I saw something either where Knuckles met Atem or Knuckles BECAME Atem. Either way...it was because both characters use the same 4Krap voice actor.
In fact, the same voice actor also voiced Hudson Horstachio (Viva Pinata), Kyo (Samurai Deeper Kyo), Trudge (Yu-Gi-Oh 5 Ds), and Fubuki's father (Arcade Gamer Fubuki). |

There's used to be a published novel called "Shatnerbang" where all of William Shatner's characters come to life with the goal of killing William Shatner. It doesn't seem to be available anymore, for better or for worse. |

The title gave me a very different impression of what that novel was about than your description did. |

Apparently you're not the only one, as it does indeed still exist, it's just been renamed Shatnerquake. I'm not sure that's much better, but if the reviews are anything to go by, it's fairly tongue-in-cheek and entertaining.
| Product Description wrote: | It's Shatner VS Shatners!
William Shatner? William Shatner. WILLIAM SHATNER!!! It's the first ShatnerCon with William Shatner as the guest of honor! But after a failed terrorist attack by Campbellians, a crazy terrorist cult that worships Bruce Campbell, all of the characters ever played by William Shatner are suddenly sucked into our world. Their mission: hunt down and destroy the real William Shatner.
Featuring: Captain Kirk, TJ Hooker, Denny Crane, Rescue 911 Shatner, Singer Shatner, Shakespearean Shatner, Twilight Zone Shatner, Cartoon Kirk, Esperanto Shatner, Priceline Shatner, SNL Shatner, and - of course - William Shatner!
No costumed con-goer will be spared in their wave of destruction, no redshirt will make it out alive, and not even the Klingons will be able to stand up to a deranged Captain Kirk with a lightsaber. But these Shatner-clones are about to learn a hard lesson...that the real William Shatner doesn't take crap from anybody. Not even himself.
It's Shatnertastic! |

An even weirder title than that was also on the list: "Rampaging Fuckers of Everything on the Crazy Shitting Planet of the Vomit Atmosphere"

| Oh...how about instead of the "same actor" device, we have the "same McGuffin" device?
Think about this one. How many Mario/Kirby crossovers have we seen due to the fact something called the Star Rod exists in both realities?
Actually, I saw a couple of fics called "Suits of Iron" that actually used this device but in a good way. It basically had two of our favorite armored characters, namely Tony Stark (Iron Man) and Samus Aran (Metroid), meet. It DID end up being a Tony/Samus pairing as well, but the way it was written it seemed rather plausible. |

There's a reason why it's the O blood of crossovers. | Yes, but it's not always 0- (universal donor). What I have trouble with is when they start crossing it over with cartoons/anime/manga/etc. While I might be willing to believe there's a planet out there inhabited by sentient alien's that look like hedgehogs, there'd best be a damn good reason for why The Doctor needs to go there. And 'just because he can' isn't a good enough reason. Call it a personal quirk, since it's actual canon that The Doctor's encountered characters from literature and history (both Earth and alien). |
Why does the Doctor "need" to go to most of the places he visits? Much of the time, he never even knew where or when he was until he went outside to find out. He walked around, had himself a time, (usually) made things a little better, and skedaddled before the dust had settled. So why couldn't he just as easily have found himself on Babylon 5? At CONTROL Headquarters? In Johto? On the Thousand Sunny?*
*I had to look up the last two. I don't follow Pokémon and have never even seen One Piece. |

| I ran across something the other night I've never encountered before-RP/Character slash. Specifically, John Barrowman and Captain Jack Harkness. I mostly skimmed it, because RPS squicks the hell out of me, and essentially, that's what it amounted to. The author seemed to believe that John Barrowman and Captain Jack would act exactly alike, to the point of both lusting after Ianto (Gareth David-Lloyd), ignoring the fact that, in real life, John is married to Scott and GDL is, to the best of my knowledge, straight and has a girlfriend.
The whole thing had a creepy, quasi-incestuous vibe to it that set my teeth on edge, and I hit the back button once I realized exactly what it was.
I know John Barrowman is aware of the amount of Captain Jack/Ianto (and Captain Jack/Pretty Much Everyone) slash that exists online, and considers it amusing (the topic apparently came up at a Con), but I do have to wonder what he'd think of someone slashing him with Captain Jack. |

| SO,
There's same place, wrong time "Time Travel" crossovers where the traveler either doesn't question just why there are doors that spin or knows exactly how it happened but doesn't feel like fixing it/can't, or "And Everybody Died" crossovers where Final Destination applies to the main characters of one fandom and they happen to show up in the Spirit World/Underworld of another fandom, aaand the "I Just Broke Reality" crossovers where the traveler basically rapes logic.
Yeah, I totally did the "guess where I found this one" thing. |
