Kokology is a Japanese "game" (they use it sometimes in therapy I guess?) where people are asked a question, sometimes a multi-part question, and the answers reveal something about their personality. It's sort of pop psychology, with each answer supposing to tap into the unconscious mind. Let's try some!

After a day or so, I'll post what the answers are supposed to mean. All you guys have to do is just answer the question to the best of your ability. Warning: some of these questions might make you use your imagination. Razz

1. A book lies open in front of you. What type of story does it contain?
2. You begin to read and soon find that you yourself area a character in the story. What kind of role do you play?
3. You read further and come to a section where the pages have been damaged, making them nearly impossible to read. What part of the story is it?
4. You have just closed the cover after finishing the book. How was the ending?

Quote:
1. A book lies open in front of you. What type of story does it contain?

A fantasy story, though the setting is mundane and the book obviously has fun not taking itself as serious as a high fantasy novel would.

Quote:
2. You begin to read and soon find that you yourself area a character in the story. What kind of role do you play?

Wizard or witch, or something similar. More generally, the know-it-all sidekick.

Quote:
3. You read further and come to a section where the pages have been damaged, making them nearly impossible to read. What part of the story is it?

I was gonna say the ending, but since the next part of the story excludes that option, I'll say it's the chapter where it becomes apparent that my character has a love life and, more importantly kind of love life he has. Random if cute, probably.

Quote:
4. You have just closed the cover after finishing the book. How was the ending?

Bittersweet.

High Fantasy, you know swords and magic and the like, with heroes and armys and great evils.

Quote:
2. You begin to read and soon find that you yourself area a character in the story. What kind of role do you play?

Captain of a unit in one of the armies, not exactly high profile but at least named and given a role, may end up being killed just to show how bad ass the enemy is.

Quote:
3. You read further and come to a section where the pages have been damaged, making them nearly impossible to read. What part of the story is it?

The turning point of the battle, first the good guys are loosing, then after the damge something put the enemy on the defensive.

Quote:
4. You have just closed the cover after finishing the book. How was the ending?

Satisfying if a little expected, Good won at a cost, Evil is crippled but not completely broken and the adventures move on for even greater deeds.

Crime fiction, not too gory.

I think I'm a redshirt (no lines Razz ), never leave the building. Seen in the background carrying papers around.

3. You read further and come to a section where the pages have been damaged, making them nearly impossible to read. What part of the story is it?

A definite clue, but not the resolution of the story. Although I might be wondering if I'd be less confused by the ending if I'd been able to read that bit.

The villain was caught and brought to justice, but it's still kinda bittersweet.

Fantasy/Action, something based in the real world but with monsters.
Maximilia wrote:

Well I'm a villain. But not the main one, I'm probably even more evil than the main guy, but I'd help the heroes out for kicks.

A fight scene! Lots of blood yes.

Satisfying. The heroes accomplish their goals, which I'm ok with because they were all anti-heroes who were awesome.

Some sort of quasi-horror-survival story that takes place in a near-modern setting.

Quote:
2. You begin to read and soon find that you yourself area a character in the story. What kind of role do you play?

I'm a supporting female character in the group fighting for survival. I'm not a love interest, or particularly awesome, but I get a few moments of character development I suppose. =/

Quote:
3. You read further and come to a section where the pages have been damaged, making them nearly impossible to read. What part of the story is it?

A part where a character I've grown attached to gets into a situation of life and death.

I guess I was satisfied with it. Odds are I'll end up forgetting the whole plot by next week though.

Probably a Cyberpunk mystery thriller or a Sci-Fi Survival Horror.

Quote:

Overlooked supporting character. I tell the main character of certain observations I noted only for him to run bindly into the action.

A whole sub-plot that gives me character development and makes me likeable.

1. Cosmic Horror
2. With my luck probably the character that goes insane or dies horribly at the end.
3. A description of the monster.
4. Ambiguous.

1. Something involving sex, shopping and swearing. It's a weakness of mine.
2. The best friend. There, and not integral to the plot.
3. The bit where the best friend gets paired off with any random character just for the sake of being paired off.
4. Disappointing, as always.

1. An odd, confusing, badly-translated psychological affair. But hey, it's discount.
2. I am the only character.
3. The part that demystifies the whole thing.

Some sort of zombie apocalypse tomfoolery.

Quote:

One of the survivors. The one that everyone is convinced is a total wackjob and possibly dangerous, despite being mostly harmless in reality.

The part where the big horde descends upon the band of survivors and all hope seems lost.

Hilarious when you first get done reading. Then after you think about it for a bit, you realize the whole thing was kinda dumb and you dwell on the parts that annoyed you.

A murder mystery or something.

A red herring.

3. You read further and come to a section where the pages have been damaged, making them nearly impossible to read. What part of the story is it?
Somewhere in the middle. A scene that's not very important, but entertaining.

Contrived.

A Murder Mystery with an Urban Fantasy twist to it.

I am the lead. Not quite plucky, not quite bad ass but just motivated enough to keep the story going.

Just satisfying enough to make the book was worth the purchase price but not overly impressive.

1. A book lies open in front of you. What type of story does it contain?

Urban fantasy, probably with sci-fi elements. Definitely an adventure story, on the humorous side.

2. You begin to read and soon find that you yourself area a character in the story. What kind of role do you play?

The dashing hero, of course. The sort who's irreverent and doesn't mind bending the rules, but overall is true to her own sense of right and wrong.

3. You read further and come to a section where the pages have been damaged, making them nearly impossible to read. What part of the story is it?

The setup for the romantic subplot.

4. You have just closed the cover after finishing the book. How was the ending?

Exciting and full of triumph for the good guys, with the implication that the next adventure is just around the bend (sequel hook!)

1. A book lies open in front of you. What type of story does it contain?
A fast-paced, swashbuckling adventure story.
2. You begin to read and soon find that you yourself area a character in the story. What kind of role do you play?
The sympathetic villain. I'm a dashing yet incompetent pirate captain. I sport a very flashy hat.
3. You read further and come to a section where the pages have been damaged, making them nearly impossible to read. What part of the story is it?
The ending.

1. Something set in modern times, with a tendancy to (either subtly or as outright plot devices) paint the mundane as potentially more interesting than people give it credit for. Possibly urban fantasy.
2. A supporting character, one that does some of the less-important actions instead of being Mister Exposition. The part of the romance subplot who gets shafted in favor of someone else.
3. A, if not the pivotal plot twist.
4. Satiating.

Sci-fi of a sort, either space opera or something similar. There will be advanced technology, perhaps time travel.

Maximilia wrote:

Underling, one of the lower-deck characters who hardly ever appears and has almost no lines, but is part of the support that keeps the main plot rolling.

Maximilia wrote:

The reveal, where whatever catastrophic twist that the book's been hinting at all along comes to light.

Unsatisfying, since the reveal was missing. Most of the good guys have died, but the survivors have won, so it's bittersweet.

Some shitty fantasy that no one reads unless they stumble upon it by accident.

I'm the protagonist's useful and eccentric friend. You know the type...hero goes on epic quest, friend bops around in the background and leads them either to some important clue or a deep discovery about themself. Friend is then paired off with other minor character and is promptly forgotten about.

Alrighty, we got a lot of replies, so I'll go ahead and reveal what the questions are supposed to mean. First of all, my responses:

1.) An epic sweeping fantasy novel.
2.) I'm the lead of course! As someone who doesn't want to do whatever quest they're doing, but stuck with it anyway.
3.) The ending, so I'll never know how it ends.
4.) I don't know!!

And now *drum roll* the BIG REVEAL (EDIT: Spoilered now for people who want to play later):

Spoiler:

There. Discuss how right or wrong the answers were for you... and remember, this is pop psychology which can be eerily accurate at times, but isn't always. And likely doesn't mean anything. I'll wait a couple days before I find a good next question and post it. Actually, I know the one I want to ask, but I lost the book it's in somewhere in the move, so I'm looking for it. :-/

It's a courtroom drama/murder mystery type thing. Probably by John Grisham.

Quote:
2. You begin to read and soon find that you yourself area a character in the story. What kind of role do you play?

I'm a background character, who is occasionally present but rather unobtrusive... Up until one point when a piece of information/technology/skill or something is required which only I possess, in which case I become some sort of missing jigsaw piece to help the main character accomplish their goal.

Quote:
3. You read further and come to a section where the pages have been damaged, making them nearly impossible to read. What part of the story is it?

The bit in which a main character escapes or solves a seemingly impossible problem. Just like me to miss out on either the appearance of a deus-ex, or a very clever working around of one.

Quote:
4. You have just closed the cover after finishing the book. How was the ending?

Satisfying... Especially as I helped by just being me. (who knew a near perfect recall of Sierra videogames would prove to be so useful?)

Edit: I wrote this without seeing the explanation post. I swear!

Also: When I started studying psychology, my lecturer did that thing when she passes out 'psych evaluations' (these can also be astrology sign interpretations and stuff) to the class. After having us all say "Yes you're quite right in your assumptions" we passed on our evaluations to another person and read theirs... only to find that the evaluations are all the same.

TL;DR: Whatever you wrote, you'll find a connection

Yeah, no. I went to a private school with 40 people in my entire year. If anyone stepped out of line (horrible, horrible things like wrecking a car) the entire school knew about it. Crime fiction? Hardly. That's just what I like to read.

That's sorta true. I was fairly active in class, but a background character socially.

I said an important clue towards solving the murder mystery. One that may or may not have been helpful in understanding the ending. Can someone help me interpret that?

Quote:
4. The ending of the story is an expression of your feelings of closure (or lack thereof) regarding your days spent at school.

My high school graduation time was actually pleasant enough, if not particularly special. I did have a spot of bother in my love life around that time, but that didn't carry over into school. I just said bittersweet because crime fiction rarely ends on YAY NOBODY DIED AFTER ALL, so I'm used to bittersweet endings.

Pop psychology counter-question: is there so little that actually applies to me because my high school time was so long ago? Are these explanations closer to th mark for the people here that just recently left high school as opposed to those that are older?
